Dahlia Sleeps by Tom Turpie
Dahlia Sleeps began forming their emotive, electronic sound in a basement studio in South London at the end of 2015. Drawing comparisons with London Grammar, The XX, Daughter and Cat Power from the blogosphere, they zero in on painful human emotion, combining intimacy and defiance. Luke Hester, the bands producer, builds each track from the ground up with his haunting electronic production that blends with Lucy Hill͛‘s delicate, soulful vocal. Authenticity runs through the pair‘s writing as they tackle important topics such as homophobia and grief with maturity and weight. They write songs about the kind of love that threatens to leave, taking a familiar storyline and adding enticing melodiesand layered synths to turn it into a fairytale.
Dahlia Sleeps made waves online with the release of their debut track Breathe. The FADER called the song a sensitive, pretty thing and it quickly and confidently permeated through the blogosphere racking up hundreds of thousands of plays on Soundcloud and millions of views on YouTube, now standing at 3.7 million streams across all platforms.
The band followed up with several more applauded singles including „Hessian“ (luxurious production style replete with luscious, organic textures – COMPLEX), „Black And Blue“ (murky and shimmering like a fairytale swamp – DIY), „Still Light“ (incredible single – Pigeons & Planes) and „Burn“ (quite possibly Dahlia’s most refined effort to date – Hillydilly), which topped off a triumphant year culminating in the release of their debut 4-track EP titled „Breathe“ in May 2017.
In 2018 they confidently made the jump from Soundcloud swee thearts to one of the most promising young bands in the UK with the release of their second EP ‘After It All’. In between their online success they sold out London venues Sebright Arms and The Lexington, were included on Glastonbury‘s Emerging Talent list became a BBC Introducting featured artist, and received Radio 1 airtime from Huw Stephens. Following the upcoming release of their third EP „Love, Lost“ they will return to the stage on October 19, headlining London’s Omeara.
