KALK¥L
When melancholy meets optimism, light shines through the rain – and out of it comes KALK¥L. The Mannheim-based band blends psychedelic indie soul with warm analog textures, fuzzy guitars, layered vocals, and a gentle melancholy that somehow still carries hope.
Behind KALK¥L are Tom Woschitz and Phil Sodemann – two musicians who write intuitively and song-first, guided by a deep sense of atmosphere, texture, and emotional clarity. Their close friendship shapes not only their sound but also their understanding of music itself: as an open, safe space for authenticity and calm.
Live, KALK¥L expands into a vibrant ensemble; at select shows, Tom and Phil present a stripped-down version of the project – featuring 12-string acoustic guitar, melodica, and a quietly pulsing, almost unhurried energy.
Their debut EP Lazy Sunday Tapes (2022) was written and recorded in their living room and co-produced with Michael Nowatzky. The lo-fi-infused songs laid the foundation for their signature sound and were featured as “New & Notable” on Bandcamp, followed by airplay on FluxFM and Deutschlandfunk Nova.
During their tour, the idea for a collaborative EP emerged: Only Way To Catch Me, created with French artist Laventure and released in 2024. The title track spent six weeks on the FM4 charts and appeared on playlists like Spotify Fresh Finds GSA and Apple Music Editorials.
After shows in France, Belgium, and Austria, 2025 saw KALK¥L supporting Steaming Satellites and playing a highlight set at the Maifeld Derby.
